Shooting leaves one dead in Saanich, B.C.
Police say a suspect is already in custody, but have not released details
Vancouver Island Major Crimes Unit have a suspect in custody after a shooting in a quiet neighbourhood in Saanich on Tuesday morning left one person dead.
Emergency services were called to a home in the 700 block of Cameo Street at around 7.15 a.m. PT, after a 911 call reporting a resident there was in need of medical attention.
Saanich Police Sgt. John Price says the deceased and the suspect knew each other but investigators are not disclosing their ages, genders or their relationship as they are still working on notifying the next of kin.
"A lot is determined on when they locate and notify the family," said Price.
"By all rights the next of kin deserve that information before the general public, with respect to what exactly happened inside that home."
Police blocked public access to Cameo Street Tuesday afternoon, but Price says there is no risk to public safety.
Investigators are seeking a search warrant for the home and an autopsy will likely be conducted in the coming days.
