A Kelowna man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Amy Jane Parkes.

Parkes's body was found around 10 a.m. PT Tuesday in her Lakeshore Road home after she failed to report for work that morning.

Police determined her death was suspicious and began a murder investigation.

Const. Kris Clark says Ryan James Quigley, who is in his mid-30s, was named early on as a person of interest in the case and police requested the public's help in finding him and his car.

Two days later, plainclothes officers found Quigley in his car in the 500 block of Coronation Avenue in Kelowna. He was arrested without incident and taken in for questioning.

Quigley made a court appearance Friday, and is next scheduled to be in court April 8.

A Facebook post that shows a photo of Parkes and Quigley, together, indicates the two had planned to marry.

Parkes used the alternate spelling Aimee for her first name, but police confirmed her actually name was Amy.
