An RCMP constable in Nanaimo may be disciplined for crashing his cruiser into the fence of a residential home Sunday.

Witnesses say that around 2 p.m. PT, the constable was chasing two speeding motorcyclists.

He hit the curb, lost control, hit a tree and crashed into a fence.

Nanaimo RCMP Cpl. Norm Smith says it was a rookie mistake on the part of the constable.

"He's a junior member and, unfortunately, this is a junior-member error. We've all made those types of errors in our career," Smith said.

No one was injured besides the constable, who only sustained minor cuts and bruises.

Smith says a collision analyst is investigating, and the force is looking into the circumstances around the crash.

Once the case has been reviewed, the constable may have to undergo remedial training or futher discipline.
