The victim of what officials believe to be a targeted shooting in Richmond, B.C., has been identified.

RCMP found the body of Jasdeep Singh Klair, 24, after being called to a motor vehicle crash around 2:25 p.m. on Sunday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said it's believed Klair was shot while he was driving and lost consciousness behind the wheel, which led to the crash at Granville Avenue and Ledway Road.

Officials said he was known to police and the shooting is believed to be targeted.

Less than an hour after the shooting, a suspect vehicle was found in the 4400 block of Thompson Road. Officials said the orange 2010 Kia Forte was reported stolen in Surrey in March.

Despite the large number of people in the area in a "heavily populated" residential neighbourhood in the middle of the day, Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said police weren't called for the shots that were fired but for the car crash that followed  the shooting.

She said IHIT is asking anyone with information to contact the department by calling the tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers, for those wishing to remain anonymous.
