A B.C. Lower Mainland RCMP officer has been charged with drinking and driving after allegedly driving off the road in West Vancouver last November.
West Vancouver police say Victor Joseph Cunha, 47, was off-duty and travelling in a personal vehicle on Nov. 30 when the crash occurred.
Witnesses described seeing the vehicle lose control, hit the median, and land in a ditch on the Upper Levels Highway.
West Vancouver Const. Jeff Palmer said his department recommended charges of impaired driving, which were approved by Fraser Region Crown Counsel on Tuesday.
"The counts include one count of dangerous driving, one count of impaired driving and one count of driving over .08," Palmer said.
An officer named "Sgt. Victor Cunha" is listed as the head of the province's explosive response unit on an RCMP web page that was last updated over a year ago.
Cunha is scheduled to appear in North Vancouver Provincial Court on June 26.
