Port Moody scooter crash leaves elderly woman dead

A 71-year-old woman riding a scooter has been killed in an accident in Port Moody at Ungless Way and Ioco Road during the afternoon rush hour.

A 71-year-old woman riding a mobility scooter has been killed in an accident in Port Moody Tuesday at the corner of Ungless Way and Ioco Road during the afternoon rush hour.

Port Moody police Inspector Ken MacDonald says the woman was riding on her scooter alongside her daughter around 3:30 p.m. PT when she was struck as the result of an accident involving three vehicles including a large commercial truck.

MacDonald say the occupants of the  two other vehicles involved in the collision were both taken to hospital.

The accident brought down a light standard on the corner.

A total of seven ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident.

Police say Ioco Road between Newport Drive and Ravine Drive will remain closed for at least the next 12 hours.
