Port Moody Mayor Joe Trasolini says he will not seek re-election in this fall's civic elections.
Trasolini said after 15 years in municipal politics — the last 12 as mayor — he wants to do something else.
"I don't think I've made any decision as to what I might be doing," he said. "I am a person that is involved, involved in the community, involved all my life and I think that I leave the options open. We'll see what happens in the next while and evaluate whatever opportunities may present themselves."
Trasolini said he has not yet decided whether to remain in politics or go back into business.
He said he is proud of Port Moody's many accomplishments under his stewardship. During his time as mayor, the city's population increased by 40 per cent.
In 2009, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities named Port Moody the most fiscally prudent municipality in the province.
