A driver was found dead in his car on a rural road in Delta, B.C., this morning, after police responded to reports of a vehicle in a ditch.

Police were called out to River Road near 60th Avenue around 6 a.m. PT, but the driver — the lone occupant of the vehicle — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic is being diverted on River Road near 60th Avenue as Delta Police continue to investigate the accident. The male victim has not yet been identified.

“At this time, it's too early to know the exact cause of the collision, or how long the vehicle had been in the ditch before we were called,” says Sergeant Sarah Swallow of Delta Police.

“However, our collision investigation section is there determining that, and they'll be looking at all factors such as speed, weather, etc.”

Police are also looking into any preexisting health conditions the driver may have had.
