It's the Canada Day weekend... so wave those flags and put on that red and white, wherever you are spending the holiday. Here are some suggestions from CBC Radio's On the Coast team:

1) Vancouver International Busker Festival

Two days of shows on the streets with more than 80 entertainers including acrobats, music, magicians and of course the now-ubiquitous food trucks so you won't go hungry.

2) Darts Hill Garden Party (Surrey)

The South Surrey park was gifted to the city by Francisca and Edwin Darts. The special features are the rare and unusual plants from around the world. Bring your picnic blanket and the family for the plant sale, local artists, bonsai and alpine garden exhibits, a family tree hunt and music and dancing.

3) Rumble at the Rio

Rumble at the Rio supports the efforts of the non-profit group Aprons for Gloves to provide community outreach through boxing.

The Rio Theatre hosts a benefit for Aprons for Gloves, a non-profit that provides community outreach through the sport of boxing. The event will feature jumbo boxing, craft beer, and a screening of Rocky.

4) Tastes of Latin America - Latin restos serve their favourite traditional recipes

Local restaurants serve up flavourful traditional recipes from Colombia, Peru, and other Latin American countries. (Carnaval Del Sol)

It's more than just your Tex Mex taco or burrito. Restaurants like El Azteca, La Casita and Saltenas will offer their favourite traditional recipes from Latin America.

5) Canada Day at Granville Island, New Westminster Quay and Canada Day Parade

Celebrate Canada's birth all over the Lower Mainland with parades, fireworks and music. (Granville Island)

Tuesday is the beginning of July and time to celebrate our country. If you're looking to join the crowds, Granville Island will be hopping with a lobster festival, a cultural food pavilion and free concerts.

The New Westminster Quay is hosting festivities starting at 3 p.m. with fireworks, music, and circus performances.

There are many Canada Day parades taking place in the Lower Mainland. You can head to Granville Island and downtown Vancouver at Georgia and Broughton, as well as the Burnaby Village Museum, and many more events spread around various communities.

6) VIVA Vancouver

The City's VIVA Vancouver summertime program begins this weekend, transforming downtown roads into vibrant pedestrian spaces for people of all ages.

VIVA Granville will host art, live music, performances and street markets on Granville Street between Smithe and Hastings, while the Robson Redux will see the 800-block of Robson Street turned into an "urban reef".

Parklets, picnic tables and farmers markets will also be popping up for the program, which runs from Saturday, June 28 until Sunday, September 1.
