Nanaimo RCMP looking for suspect after 2 separate sex assaults in same location
Both attacks happened along the railway tracks, near the intersection of Kennedy and Farquar streets
Nanaimo RCMP say a white man with a reddish beard may be behind two separate sex assaults in the same location.
The first occurred on Dec. 3, 2015 and the second this past Friday.
Just before 5 p.m. PT on Feb. 12, police say a young teenage girl was walking along railway tracks behind the Islamic Cultural Centre, near the intersection of Kennedy and Farquar streets.
The male suspect approached her from behind and pulled down her pants before running off along the tracks towards Hecate Street.
"The female was not physically injured during the assault and is being supported by her family," said Nanaimo RCMP in a release.
Police say they believe there is a link to the earlier attack.
"Given the location and similarity in description of the suspect, investigators believe both occurrences may have been carried out by the same individual," said the release.
Investigators say they are preparing a composite sketch of the suspect, but describe him as:
- A white male in his 30s.
- Five-feet, 10 inches tall.
- With a goatee-like, reddish beard.
- Slim to skinny, possibly 160 pounds.
- Wearing a green knitted toque pulled down to his brown eyes.
- Wearing tan or brown jeans.
- Wearing a grey sweater over a shirt.
Police are asking anyone with information about these attacks to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, text 274637, keyword 'Nanaimo' or submit your tip online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
