A Surrey RCMP officer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injures Friday afternoon after a car crash between a marked RCMP cruiser and a car at King George Boulevard and 108 Avenue.
The driver of the car and a passenger suffered minor injuries.
In a statement issued Friday, police said it is believed the marked cruiser had its lights and sirens on and was was "travelling westbound on 108th Avenue when it was struck on the passenger side by a white Honda sedan travelling northbound on King George Boulevard."
"The subsequent collision caused the police vehicle to flip on its roof trapping the lone male officer inside," the statement said.
A third vehicle, stopped in the eastbound lane of 108 Avenue was then struck by one of the two cars after the initial collision. Its occupants were not hurt.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said the officer is lucky he was not more seriously hurt.
Police closed the area to traffic well into the Friday afternoon rush hour and advised motorists to take alternate routes.
