Mountie charged with dangerous driving after fatal collision
Const. Micah Chan charged with dangerous driving
A B.C. RCMP officer is facing a criminal charge after an alleged high speed chase that ended in the death of the driver of the suspect vehicle this June in Salmon Arm, B.C.
Const. Micah Chan has been charged with dangerous driving.
Twenty-one-year-old Courtenay Eggen of Cherryville, B.C., died after losing control of her vehicle during the chase.
"The second driver accelerated to a high rate of speed and Const. Chan allegedly pursued that vehicle at a high speed. The second driver ultimately lost control of her vehicle resulting in the fatal collision," said Crown spokesperson Neil Mackenzie.
Mackenzie said the crown determined that the incident did not warrant a charge of dangerous driving causing death.
Chan's next court appearance is next February.
