A Maple Ridge mother wept Monday as she told a coroner's inquest about the night she found her three-year-old son mauled to death by at least two dogs.

Waking up to the screams of her other children two days after Christmas 2004, Sheri Fontaine recalled running to the living room and finding Cody John Anger's body laid on the couch in their suburban home.

The boy died from massive bleeding after an attack by at least two of four dogs that were all supposed to be locked in the basement.Cody weighed 35 pounds.

Two of the animals — a Rottweiler puppy and a sheep dog — were family pets, and two adult Rottweilers were staying over and belonged to a female friend temporarily living with the family but away for the Christmas holidays.

Fontaine told the coroner's jury none of the dogs in the house at the time were dangerous.

All the dogs were put down after the attack.
