Brandy Cowell had been reported seen in several locations across B.C. before she was found Thursday. ((RCMP))

A Merritt, B.C., woman, missing for 10 days in what police described as an "unusual and suspicious" absence, has been found safe on Vancouver Island, RCMP say.

Brandy Cowell and boyfriend, Robert Bishop, were found in Oceanside, near Parksville.

Cowell was last heard from in a phone call Aug. 31 to her parents in Merritt, telling them she was headed to Vancouver with Bishop and would return by Sept. 6.

The family alerted RCMP, who said the woman's failure to return home was "unusual and suspicious."

Cowell, 32, was described as a loving and attentive mother who had told her parents she intended to take her six-year-old son to his first day of school Sept. 7.

Earlier Thursday, Cowell's family held a news conference with RCMP, pleading with Cowell to contact them.

Police they expected to make public details on Cowell's activities when they had gathered more information.

Bishop had been seen in surveillance tape in Trail, B.C., last week.
