Manhunt launched on North Shore after man shot and killed

Police launched a massive immediate manhunt after a man in his 60s was shot Saturday afternoon.

Police in North Vancouver launched a massive immediate manhunt after a man in his 60s was shot Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened at approximately 1:18 p.m. PT, in the 4000 block of St. Georges Avenue in Upper Lonsdale. Police were quickly seeking a suspect who had driven off.

Just after 1:30 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP had established a roadblock on the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge. Officers also stopped southbound traffic on the Lions Gate Bridge. Both roadblocks were gone by 3 p.m.

First responders were unable to save the life of the man who was shot, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the case.

Police said this is North Vancouver's first homicide of 2013.
