After a two-hour standoff, an apparent armed would-be bank robber surrendered peacefully to police in West Vancouver on the weekend.
Police said Monday that the man taken into custody did not have any weapon, and wasn't trying to rob the bank.
Officials with the West Vancouver Police Department said the incident began at around 3:30 p.m. PT Sunday, when officers received reports of a man with a gun at the Park Royal Shopping Centre.
Police arrived at the scene and located the man inside a bank in Park Royal South, and then proceeded to evacuate the employees and customers from inside the bank. Several stores and roadways in the immediate area were closed as a safety measure.
The man surrended to police at around 5:30 p.m.
Police now say that the investigation into the supposed bank robbery attempt has concluded, and no charges are being considered against the man.
