Kelowna RCMP investigate shooting on Highway 33

A man was shot in the Rutland area of Kelowna, B.C., on Monday afternoon, say RCMP.

Police say a man was shot on Highway 33 East in Kelowna, B.C., shortly after 2 p.m. PT. (CBC)

A man was shot in the Rutland area of Kelowna, B.C., on Monday afternoon, say RCMP. 

Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says the incident happened on Highway 33 East near Rutland Road at around 2:25 p.m. PT.

He said several police resources have been deployed in the area, and nearby schools have been searched and secured. 

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition, police say.

O'Donaghey is asking the public to stay clear of officers who are currently in area.

"Avoid any police activity as much as you can," he said. "Don't share this incident with anyone on social media, just until we have completed our investigation." 

Police say they'll provide updates as they become available.
