Man loses eye in random attack
The Chilliwack RCMP are asking for public assistance finding the young man who shot a cyclist in the face at point-blank range with a pellet gun during spring break last month.
Frank Michelanko, 48, of Chilliwack lost the sight in his right eye in the attack which happened in broad daylight.
RCMP spokesperson Const. Steve Hiscoe says the attack happened on March 13 on Chilliwack Road about a kilometre from the Vedder River bridge.
Hiscoe said Michelenko had stopped to look at some wildlife when he heard a car approach from behind him.
"It was completely unprovoked...Our victim was riding his bicycle on his way home, pulled over to the side of the road when this vehicle pulled up and shot him in the face with a pellet gun."
The pellet broke the victim's glasses and embedded itself in his eye socket.
Hiscoe says the shooter is believed to be a young, blond-haired male who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car – a blue Chevy Cavalier-type car with an aftermarket black roof or ski rack.
