Man found with 'suspicious' injury in East Vancouver dies

A 70-year-old man has died in hospital after being found with a serious, suspicious injury in the basement suite of an East Vancouver house early this morning.

A 70-year-old man has died in hospital after being found with a serious, suspicious injury in an East Vancouver house early this morning.

The Vancouver Police Department said reports had come in at around 6 a.m. PT, saying "that a man had suffered a severe injury."

Paramedics responding to the call found the man in the basement suite of a home on East 6th Avenue near Brunswick Street in Mount Pleasant.

He was taken to hospital, where he died sometime before 2 p.m.

"Police believe that the man's injury is suspicious in nature and detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section have been called in to investigate," the VPD said in a written statement.

Police also said that officers have identified and spoken with a person of interest in the case.
