Police are investigating an apparent homicide in Richmond, B.C., after a man was found dying in front of a home on the 8400 block of Steveston Highway, just east of Number 3 Road, on Monday afternoon.
Police say emergency responders attempted to save the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour Jimmy Jin said he was returning from a quick trip to the post office around 4 p.m. PT when he spotted police all over his neighbour's property.
"I just took a quick peek and I saw the body clearly lying there on the ground in the front yard covered with a blanket, completely covered from head to toe."
Homicide investigators didn't say much about the investigation on Monday night, except to say that they it appeared to be a homicide and they were still trying to identify the man's body.
"We remain in the early stages of the investigation and IHIT is working with investigators from the Richmond RCMP to piece together the circumstances surrounding this homicide," said Sgt. Adam MacIntosh of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in a statement on Monday night.
Police say no suspect is in custody and they have yet to determine if the death was random or targeted.
That's unnerving for Maggie Leslie who lives nearby.
"We don't have any details. Everybody will be walking around on pins and needles tonight trying to feel safe in our own backyards," said Leslie.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Steveston Highway between Number 3 and Number 4 roads between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday who observed any suspicious persons, vehicle or circumstances to contact their tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
