Three people were taken to hospital after a home-made funicular broke, sending them crashing to the ground on a residential property near the Langdale ferry terminal at Gibsons, B.C.

The funicular's car was going up a hill on rails with two men and a woman inside when the cable snapped, sending it plummeting 30 meters down the hill.

One person managed to jump out before impact. All three were transported by hovercraft to the nearby BC Ferries overflow parking lot, where two were airlifted by helicopter to Vancouver General Hospital with critical injuries. The third person was taken by ambulance to hospital in Sechelt.

The incident delayed the 4:45 p.m. PT sailing of the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay ferry
