An Esquimalt home is now perched precariously close to the edge of the Gorge waterway after a huge chunk of its backyard slid into the water during heavy rains earlier this week.

Pictures posted to Facebook by the Gorge Tillicum Community Association show most of the grassy back yard of the property on Mesher Place — along with a retaining wall, deck, and stairs — collapsed down a three metre bluff.

It appears there is little yard remaining, leaving the large house sitting on the new edge of the embankment.

Locals say the property has been showing signs of erosion for years.
