Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a man they say is connected to a Feb. 12, 2016 sex assault along railway tracks while officers also confirm he is also a person of interest in relation to another attack in the same area on Dec. 3, 2015.

Kynan James Krogel, 25, faces one count of sexual assault and will appear in B.C. Provincial Court on Monday.

Last Tuesday, police issued an arrest warrant for Krogel who is from Ladysmith, saying he was connected to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl along the railway tracks near Hecate Street and behind the Islamic Cultural Centre on Feb. 12.

Police in Nanaimo said two separate sex assaults occurred near these rail tracks at Kennedy and Hecate streets since December 2015. At the time investigators were looking for the same suspect in both incidents. (Google Streetview)

Earlier, investigators had said they believed another assault in the same area on Dec. 3, 2015 was connected to the same suspect, because of the location of the attack and the description of the man victims provided.

Cst. Gary O'Brien said Krogel is a person of interest in the earlier attack.
