Injured Olympian Maëlle Ricker still a medal contender
The 35-year-old snowboarder from North Vancouver injured her wrist on Tuesday while training
A 35-year-old Olympic snowboarder from North Vancouver, B.C., expects to defend her gold medal at this year's Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia — despite being injured.
Maëlle Ricker was the first Canadian woman to win a gold medal on home snow during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She was hoping for a repeat run in Sochi.
On Tuesday, however, Ricker injured her wrist during a training session. She has until Feb. 17, when the snowboard cross event is being held, to recover.
