The investigation into human remains found in Abbotsford on Sunday has been taken over by B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
The decomposed body was spotted by two people strolling near Fraser River and Walters Road just before 8 a.m. PT.
On Monday, IHIT announced it was taking over the investigation after the Abbotsford Police Department deemed the death suspicious. The body's gender, identity, and cause of death have not yet been determined. IHIT says an autopsy will be performed to determine if it was homicide.
"IHIT continues working with the Abbotsford Police Department and our priority is to determine this person's identity and notify their next of kin." says Sgt. Adam MacIntosh of IHIT in a statement.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or email email@example.com. Crime stoppers can also be reached anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
