A 28-year-old man has pleaded guilty to stabbing his wife to death in broad daylight at her workplace two years ago.

Manmeet Singh will be sentenced on June 21 for the second-degree murder of his 24-year-old wife, Ravinder Bhangu.

Defense and Crown lawyers have submitted a joint recommendation to the judge of life in prison with no eligibility for parole for 16 years.

Bhangu was stabbed several times in the office of the Sach Di Awaaz Indo-Canadian weekly newspaper, where she worked as an administrative assistant in July 2011.

A man who was in the office of the newspaper at the time was wounded as he tried to intervene.

The attack took place a few months after the couple had split up, friends said at the time.

Dozens of people attended a memorial for the slain woman, including several who didn’t know her, but wanted to take a stand against violence against women.
