Police are investigating the death of a young man who was found in cardiac arrest by a passerby along an urban pathway in Metro Vancouver last night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team issued a statement just after midnight Friday, saying that Burnaby officers had secured the area near Austin Avenue and Lougheed Highway, which is now being treated as a homicide scene.

Just after 7:30 p.m. PT, first responders located the victim and the passerby who was helping him on a path not far from the Lougheed SkyTrain Station.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at a local hospital.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are working to establish what happened on this well-travelled path," said IHIT's Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau.
