B.C. bars opened early Friday, and shopping centres filled with patrons gathered around television screens to watch men's Olympic hockey. 

It was evening in Sochi, and breakfast time in Vancouver but die hard hockey fans were already into the beer and bacon.

There were several tense moments as the U.S. threatened to score, but in the end Team Canada prevailed 1-0 on Canada's only goal scored by Victoria's Jamie Benn.
