The collapse of a culvert has closed one lane of Highway 99  in Richmond, B.C., causing traffic back up as crews attempt to fix it.

The culvert collapsed near to the Bridgeport exit, creating a large hole in the pavement on the side of the highway.

A team with the Ministry of Transportation has been here for several hours now trying to figure out what went wrong, examining the road from all angles to get a sense of how it seemingly caved in.

One lane of the northbound highway has been closed, although there are no diversions in place.
