Motorists on B.C.'s Coquihalla Highway are being warned to expect heavy snow Tuesday night. 

VSA Highway Maintenance says 65 centimeters of snow is forecast for the  Hope to Merritt section of the highway. 

Company officials are telling people to travel through the area before 4 p.m. PT.

Travel after that is not advised because of the heavy snowfall warning.

Fierce winds knocked out power to more than 12,000 BC Hydro customers on Vancouver Island as the storm passed over the island this morning.

The winds also caused delays in BC Ferries sailings between the island and the mainland and triggered a wind warning for Metro Vancouver.

Officials at Whistler Blackcomb say the ski resort has received more than three metres of snow already this season —  the most by this date in ten years.
