The deaths of two people inside an East Vancouver apartment this morning that were earlier investigated as "sudden and suspicious" now appear to be drug overdoses, according to Vancouver police.

A hazmat team from Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services was called to the apartment in the 4000 block of Knight Street shortly after 11 a.m. PT Tuesday, along with police.

Two adults were dead inside, and a third person required medical help and was sent to hospital, according to Jonathan Gormick of Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services.

After air monitoring and environmental sampling inside the home, the hazmat crews have determined the scene is safe, according to a statement from Vancouver police Tuesday afternoon.

The VPD and BC Coroners Service are investigating the deaths as suspected drug overdoses.
