The alleged thief then places fake gold jewelry on the victim's head, neck and wrist, before removing their real gold jewelry.
Cpl. Bert Paquet advised the public to be wary of strangers approaching them, no matter how amicable.
"These incidents took place after the suspect was able to overwhelm or distract the victims, and did not involve any violence or threats," he said.
The suspect is female, approximately 5-3 tall, with gold teeth and long hair. She is usually wearing a dark head scarf and dress and speaks limited English.
Sometimes she may leave in a waiting car occupied by a companion, he said.
Police are asking anyone with any information to contact Surrey RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
