German man heli-skiing in B.C. dies in avalanche
Avalanche triggered above group of skiers was 'large enough to destroy mature trees'
A 45-year-old German citizen died this morning while heli-skiing with a group in the north Kootenay region of British Columbia.
Revelstoke RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said an avalanche was triggered above a group of heli-skiers at around 11 a.m. PT.
"The avalanche was large enough to destroy mature trees in its path," Grabinsky said in a written statement.
The German man was buried under three metres of snow. Many minutes went by before he was found, and he did not survive, Grabinsky said.
Police are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service in its investigation.
