Surrey RCMP said a loaded semi tractor trailer heading north on 176 Street, also called Highway 15, collided with a southbound pickup truck that was turning left onto 88 Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. PT.

The pickup truck came to rest north of the intersection, and the tractor trailer went off the east side of the road, coming to rest in a ditch, where the trailer caught fire.

Surrey RCMP said the two drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles, and were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The area was closed to traffic for much of the night as police conducted their investigation, but was partially reopened early Thursday morning.
