Police are blaming heavy snow for a serious accident involving three semi trucks on Highway 1 north of Hope that killed one person and closed the route.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. Monday on the south side of the Emory Creek Bridge when a southbound truck loaded with logs failed to negotiate a turn and crossed the centerline.

The truck hit a northbound semi truck head-on. A third southbound truck was unable to stop in time and crashed into the first two.

The drivers of the first two trucks were transported to hospital with serious injuries, but a 50-year-old male passenger from Calgary in the second truck died of injuries at the scene. The driver of the third truck was uninjured.

Police says heavy snowfall likely contributed to the accident. The highway is expected to remain closed until noon on Tuesday.

School officials with District #78 Fraser-Cascades say as a result of the closure, the school in Boston Bar will be closed for the day and school bus #9 will only run as far as Dogwood.
