Police in Victoria, B.C, are warning people to watch out for a fake taxi cab, following several complaints from women that they were picked up and groped by a man posing as a taxi driver.

The man has been offering rides to intoxicated women who are looking to get home after the local bars close, say police.

Police say make sure anytime you get in a cab make sure it has proper markings, lights, a meter and a licence. (CBC)

The investigation is ongoing, and police are advising everyone to make sure they only accept rides from marked and licensed taxis.

They also suggest:

  • Travel home in a group when possible, especially after a night on the town.
  • When entering a taxi, check to see if the camera is obscured or missing.
  • Check to see that the driver displays a valid taxi license.
