The estranged husband of an Abbotsford woman found dead in her home earlier this week has been charged with second-degree murder.

Leanne Friesen, 40, was found dead in the garage of a home in the 34800 block of Cassiar Court on Wednesday evening, after a family member asked police to check on her.

Police said she died from gunshot injuries.

Her estranged husband, Jeffrey Friesen, 40, was arrested at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Friesen was charged with second-degree murder Thursday.

"Although the Abbotsford police and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team were able to bring this investigation to a formal charge we recognize the tragedy and loss to this family," said IHIT Cpl. Adam MacIntosh.

Friesen remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Abbotsford Provincial Court on Tuesday.
