Mission RCMP say marijuana use is behind a fatal crash on Lougheed Highway, which killed a Abbotsford man in his 60s.

On Saturday morning police responded to a call of a collision between a black 2015 Dodge Ram Crew Cab pick-up truck with two occupants and a white 2012 Chevrolet van, driven by the victim, who was alone at the time.

Investigators say the Dodge crossed the centre line on Loughheed Highway several kilometres west of the Silver Creek industrial park, between Chester and Nelson Streets and struck the van, which was in the oncoming lane.

Police say they believe marijuana use was a contributing factor in the incident.

The driver of the Dodge truck — a 25-year-old Abbotsford resident — was arrested and while the investigation is continuing, police say they will recommend a charge of impaired driving causing death.

Officers are asking anyone who may have been in the area and observed either vehicle involved prior to the collision to contact them at 604-820-3540.
