Vancouver police say the minivan involved in a fatal collision with a TransLink bus today was stolen.

The head-on crash happened early this afternoon, at around 12:45 p.m. PT, on Broadway near St. Catherines Street in East Vancouver.

The driver of the minivan died at the scene.

The driver of the bus was not injured, but five passengers on the bus were taken to hospital, police say.

Const. Brian Montague with Vancouver Police says the bus was heading east and was slowing down in order to pick up passengers at a stop just east of St. Catherines.

He said it appears the minivan was heading west when it crossed several lanes of traffic and collided head-on with the bus.

Police later confirmed that the minivan had been stolen from the Metrotown area in Burnaby sometime after 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
