Former Vancouver mayor Art Phillips will soon have a park named after him.
The Vancouver park board has decided to rename Discovery Square at the Burrard SkyTrain Station Art Phillips Park.
Board chair Aaron Jasper says the vote was unanimous.
"Many people don’t realize that a lot of what we have as the city and in terms of the livability of Vancouver, a lot of it is really owed to Art Phillips," Jasper said.
Phillips was mayor from 1972 to 1977.
he is known for ending the controversial plan to have freeways run through Vancouver, as well as converting False Creek into a residential neighbourhood.
