Tributes have been pouring in for iconic rock musician David Bowie, who was no stranger to Vancouver.

He played often and even spent time in the city rehearsing.

Watch the CBC archive footage from 1983, when Bowie performed at the PNE as part of his Serious Moonlight Tour.

The gender-bending, shape-shifting musician, actor and performer, who had a profound influence on popular culture and fashion in a career spanning five decades, has died after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Bowie has performed several times in Vancouver, including BC Place which shared an old poster on social media Monday.

Tributes also came in from Vancouverites, such as radio host Kirk LaPointe and actor Arthur Darvill who is shooting in Vancouver for DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
