A crash involving two vehicles on Highway 97C east of Merritt, B.C. Monday sent seven people to hospital where they remain in critical condition.

According to BC Ambulance, the four people who were initially reported to be in serious condition and transported to hospital, are now listed in critical condition. 

Three other three victims initially reported as in critical condition at the accident scene, received treatment on the ground, before being taken to hospital. One of them was airlifted out.

Five ground ambulances were dispatched to the scene about eight kilometres east of Merritt, as well as one air ambulance.

The crash closed the section of road between Merritt and Highway 5A for about an hour Dec. 28 around 2 p.m. PT.
