The federal government is proposing changes to the Criminal Code for offenders found not criminally responsible for crimes they’ve committed while suffering mental disorders.

The intention is to make it harder for those who’ve been violently mentally ill to be released from custody.

The changes are welcome news to families like Darcie Clarke’s, whose three children were killed by her ex-husband, schizophrenic Allan Schoenborn.

The CBC’s Natalie Clancy reports.
