Aboriginal artist Corinne Hunt will unveil a new piece of public art at Port Coquitlam City Hall on Monday night.

The carving was commissioned to celebrate Port Coquitlam's 100th birthday, and blends together themes that reflect the community.

Hunt is well-known for co-designing the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic medals.

She was chosen by the Port Coquitlam Community Cultural Development Committee to undertake the project, even though she knew little about the city at the time.

"I had never really spent any time in Port Coquitlam," Hunt said.

"It has quite the amazing trail system. The environment is quite unique and beautiful — blue herons, and all those animals are quite well-represented."

The unveiling ceremony takes place Monday night at 6 p.m. PT in the foyer of Port Coquitlam City Hall, located at 2580 Shaughnessy Street.
