The Crown has stayed charges of interfering with a body against two men who were accused in a bizarre North Vancouver kidnapping in September.

Crown Counsel Jeremy Hermanson made the surprise announcement at an arraignment hearing for Dyllan Green and Jacob Gorelik in North Vancouver provincial court Thursday morning.

Two other men, Tian Yi Zhang and Casey Hiscoe, still face charges of kidnapping a Chinese national named Peng Sun with intent to hold him for ransom.

Zhang is also charged with Sun's murder.

The incident came to public attention when police swarmed a Lynn Valley neighbourhood as part of an investigation into a kidnapping.

The investigation turned into a homicide case with the discovery of a body. Police removed three cars from the scene: a black BMW, a white Bentley and a Chevrolet Malibu.

Outside court, Hermanson said there was not sufficient evidence to proceed with the charges against Gorelik and Green.

Their lawyers had previously maintained that they had no knowledge of any crime.
