Car of missing woman pulled from B.C. river
Police in the southern B.C. community of Creston say a vehicle recovered from a local river is owned by a missing woman.
RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said the 1997 white Pontiac Sunfire recovered from the Goat River was empty, so police are now presuming that Lana Chipesia, 23, of Creston, has drowned.
Moskaluk said the search has been suspended as the river is swollen and running fast.
"Certainly the water is high and fast at this time, so the river conditions will be examined to see when they start to recede a bit, and then hopefully that will help us with further searches."
Moskaluk said Chipesia, who disappeared on June 18 following a domestic dispute, is still classified as missing.
Rescue specialist Sheilah Sweatman, 29, of Ymir, B.C. — a small community near Nelson — drowned Wednesday while helping recover the car.
