One person was injured when a Greyhound bus swerved off a highway after hitting a moose and ended up in a swamp in the central Interior of B.C.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. PT on Highway 5 near the community of Little Fort, between Clearwater and Barriere. The bus was travelling from Edmonton to Kamloops.

The bus ended up in about two metres of water, but remained upright. One passenger's arm was broken in the incident and everyone was transported to hospital to be checked out afterwards as a precaution.

Resident Sue Davies said the moose was also killed in the incident and its calf has not been seen since.

Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said the company sent a replacement bus to pick up passengers.

Highway 5 was closed for about two hours, but has since been re-opened.
