B.C's top baby names of 2014: Olivia and Ethan

Olivia and Ethan were the most popular girls and boys names in British Columbia in 2014.

Both names have been favourites in British Columbia in previous years

Top baby names in British Columbia in 2014 were Olivia and Ethan.

For the third consecutive year, Olivia topped the list for the most popular girl name in British Columbia, according to the annual list issued by the Ministry of Health.

For boys, Ethan ranked number one in 2014 beating out last year's winner, Liam. Ethan has been a popular name amongst British Columbians since 2002, consistently ranking number one or number two each year since.

The duo have made a comeback together, it was in 2012 when both names topped the list of popular baby names in B.C.

There were 44,500 babies born in B.C. in 2014, which included 22,957  boys and 21,543 girls.

Predictions for 2015 are that Olivia will still be a strong contender and Oliver will be edging in for first place.

Because of the time required to put it together, the list of names for babies born in the proceeding year is released every December by B.C's Ministry of Health.
