Bars to stay closed during Olympic men's hockey game
Province rules against relaxing liquor rules in time for gold medal game on Feb. 23 at 4 a.m. PT
Disappointing news for hockey fans hoping to watch the Olympic men's gold medal hockey game at their favourite bar.
The provincial government has thrown cold water on the idea of relaxing liquor laws so bars and pubs could be open for the 4 a.m. PT faceoff on Feb. 23.
"People do want to go out and stay out and watch the game so we're going to actually ask if we can extend the hours," said Ian Tostenson of the B.C. Restaurant Association.
But B.C. Justice Minister Suzanne Anton said there are a number of things to consider when it comes to liquor openings.
"I have to balance things like public safety, public health, and also community interest," she said.
The gold medal game will be streaming on olympics.cbc.ca.
