Nanaimo RCMP have released a composite sketch of a man who allegedly tried to abduct a 17-year-old who had stopped to help some kittens trying to cross a road on Vancouver Island.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking anyone who may recognize this person to give them a call after an abduction attempt on a 17-year-old woman. (RCMP handout)

Police say the woman was driving home Wednesday, June 11 at 1:30 a.m. PT when she spotted some kittens trying to cross Wilkinson Road near the Cedar Bridge in Nanaimo, B.C.

The woman got out of her car to help when a car pulled up behind her and a man got out.

They exchanged a few words and as the teen was walking back to her car, she was attacked and thrown to the ground.

She fought back but police say the teen briefly lost consciousness as she was being dragged toward the suspect's car.

During the struggle, she suffered numerous cuts and abrasions to her hands and knees. The man eventually gave up fighting her and drove away.

The teen called 911 when she got home.

The suspect is described as a white man, between 20 and 25 years of age. He was driving an older model white Honda Civic or Toyota with a dark pin stripe along the door panel and a small spoiler on the trunk.

The woman says the car sounded loud and had some kind of blue light associated with it.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
